With Durga Puja only days away, work has begun at nearly 2,300 Puja pandals across Kolkata. Following an advisory issued yesterday, Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh, along with local councillor Devika Chakraborty, Boro Chairman Tarun Saha, and municipal officials, carried out inspections of key sites to ensure cleanliness and proper festival preparations.
The inspection started at Belgachia Gurudwara, which occupies approximately 11 bighas of land. Officials observed large areas filled with garbage and stagnant water, where mosquito larvae were present. A notice had been issued to the Gurudwara authorities a few days ago by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, but officials noted that several areas had still not been properly cleaned.
Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh and council health officer Atin Ghosh warned the Gurudwara management and issued clear instructions to remove the waste and drain the water. “We are giving additional time for corrective action. If they do not comply, action will be taken,” said Atin Ghosh. The Deputy Mayor also participated in prayers at the Gurudwara before continuing the inspection of Durga Puja pandals to monitor hygiene and safety ahead of the festival.
